The deliverable addresses the lack of a coherent, region-specific framework for implementing CF as a viable business model in the Mediterranean, responding to fragmented knowledge on soil carbon sequestration, regulatory uncertainty, limited funding accessibility, and the absence of clear incentives or guidance.
This report contextualises Carbon Farming within the Mediterraneanu2019s unique environment and socio-economic conditions, offering a tailored synthesis of funding mechanisms, EU legislation and mitigation potentials. It provides different financial mechanisms available for farmers to generate income through CF activities in the Mediterranean, also stating its barriers and challenges. It also gives a general overview of the current regulatory framework on the topic. In summary, it bring new knowledge on the topic.
The deliverable offers valuable, adaptable practices for sustainable agriculture across the Mediterranean, with broad policy relevance for diverse agro-ecosystems.
