JanuaryThe Interreg Euro-MED Academy opens its doors! A free open-access e-learning space by the Interreg MED Communities
As the Euro-Mediterranean region is facing unprecedented challenges, from climate change to Covid-19 pandemic, the Interreg MED thematic communities have joined forces to create an open-access and free on-line learning space: the “Interreg Euro-MED Academy”.
The Academy, based on the knowledge and competences developed by the Interreg MED territorial cooperation projects, will officially open its virtual doors in February 2022 with a learning program on “innovation for sustainability transitions” coordinated by the Catalonia Region, in the framework of PANORAMED Interreg MED project. By the end of this year, the Academy will deliver six other learning programs contributing in developing the skills and competences for the next generation leaders of a sustainable, inclusive and resilient Mediterranean area.
The Interreg Euro-MED Academy is the result of the spontaneous collaboration between the eight Thematic Communities (Blue Growth, Green Growth, Social & Creative, Efficient Buildings, Renewable Energy, Urban Transports, Sustainable Tourism, Biodiversity Protection) and PANORAMED, the governance platform, with the support of the Interreg MED Programme’s Joint Secretariat and the coordination of UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union (communication lead partner of Sustainable Tourism and Urban Transports Communities). For almost a year, more than 10 organisations have been actively co-developing this initiative to adapt and respond to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
The Interreg Euro-MED Academy’s learning offer is based on the hands-on experience of the transnational cooperation projects funded since 2017, aligned with the Interreg Euro-MED Programme’s strategic vision and designed to meet the learners main exigences, both in terms of learning methodology and subjects to be treated. So, to start with, the Interreg Euro-MED Academy has developed seven stand-alone learning programs on strategic issues for the whole Mediterranean area, which will be available during 2022, free of charge, open to the participation of anyone interested and aligned with the principles of open education.

An educational enriching experience
To make the learning experience seamless and enriching, we have mobilized a team of academics and international experts who are well-versed in both the thematic areas treated and the e-learning practices utilized, supported by a team of instructional designers.Programs & Methodology
All the learning programs meet the same quality standards, learning methodology, and they are all self-paced to let participants progress at their own speed. Each learning program will last between 4 to 6 weeks, for a weekly workload of 2-3 hours, for a total of 12-18 hours. They will comprise pre-recorded lectures, reading suggestions, interactive exercises, live sessions and peer-to-peer exchanges about the future of the Mediterranean region.
