The training project is developed through five digital training modules, in English, which address the following topics:
- Integrated and informed tourism governance for smart and more resilient destinations
- Data sharing and harmonization as the basis for knowledge-based decision making.
- Greening and sustainable tourism.
The course is divided into the following modules:
Module #1 "Tourism and geographical differential in the Med area" • Tourism, Globalization and mobility
• The spatial spread of international tourism
• International Tourism in UE and the geographical differential in the Med area
• Tourism and resilience in the Med area
Module #2 “Greening and sustainable tourism: the environmental change” • The concept of sustainable development
• Greening and Sustainable Tourism
• Tourism and environmental change
• Managing tourism and environmental change
• Carrying capacity
Module #3 "Tourism data: opportunities and obstacles" • From data to information and knowledge: how to build harmonized and integrated information ecosystems to sustain decision in tourism destination governance
• Reusing administrative data: advantages and challenges in the perspective of local sustainable and evolutionary knowledge bases.
• New data sources: images, sensors , smart communities' devices, semantic web, unstructured narratives. Limits and drawbacks of a new data era.
Module #4 "Data sharing and social participation for knowledge development" • Information systems as “data narratives” - how to bridge social narratives in information systems. Which data sources to translate the European narrative on sustainable and green tourism in information and data system
• Methodologies and advanced approaches to support social communications (bottom-up vs top-down): the role of metadata against information noise
• Transparency, decisions results communication , social dialogue and the role of social networks
• Good practices of participated governance: recognizing territorial and social processes: facing and communicating risks.
Module #5 "Sustainability measurements" • Brief excursus on the key steps on the model developments for measuring sustainability and competitiveness of a tourism destination
• The measurement of sustainability by using composite indicators
• From the Development Sustainable Goals to a system of indicators able to measure sustainability of a toursim destination
• The European Tourism Indicator System (ETIS) to measure the sustainability of a tourism destination.
• The global destination sustainability index.
In addition to the videos for each module, slides are provided with the contents covered, as well a final test to verify learning. At the end of the course a certificate of attendance will be issued.
