MayRegistration open of "#06_ Achieving green living areas, from buildings to cities and territories"
In this six-week course, you will learn about circular economy, sustainable mobility, energy efficiency and clean energy through interactive materials, live events and working groups. The course will provide you with tangible examples of actions, policies, and tools available to apply effective solutions in your local, national, or regional context.
Guest speakers and experts from the Interreg MED Renewable Energy, Green Growth, Efficient Buildings and Urban Transport communities will guide you through a journey looking into renewable energy production and storage, energy efficiency, soft mobility, sustainable agri-food production, and the interconnections between them.
The course is designed around a set of challenges to be solved in each learning unit. The challenges address key topics at different territorial levels: building, community, and city.
To discover more about the learning program "#06_ Achieving Green Living Areas, from Buildings, Cities and Territories" join our online launching event on June 10, 2022 from 10am to 11am.
You will have access to short videos and supporting materials that will set a theoretical framework to address the challenge; you will also receive mentoring sessions with an expert to support you and your team, and quizzes to test your learning progress. At the end of each learning unit, you will meet with all the participants in a live session, present the solutions developed and discuss them with the experts involved.
By attending this course, you will learn new approaches of how to apply available resources designed in and for the Mediterranean, and gain knowledge on how to develop plans and policies in line with Sustainable Energy Plans, Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans, Renovation plans, Energy and Climate Policies, and EU Green Deal policies that support a green transition at the local and regional levels.
In this course you will have two options of participation. All the attendees will have access to the whole material but, for a more active participation including team work on 1 challenge for each territorial scale.
On July 13, 2022 from 11:45am to 12:45am there will be the learning program's closing event where we will present the main results and the road ahead.
Join us in this path towards a greater sustainability of our Mediterranean territories!!!

The course dedicated to Green Living buildings will allow you to experience at first hand different challenges at building scale and particularly, the integration of self-sufficient energy facilities, the achievement of the best energy investment and the maximisation of the energy efficiency of a building. Attendees will have access to the material related to the 3 challenges, but will have to select one of the 3 if they want to work actively on.
Challenge #01: Integrate self-sufficient energy facilities
The challenge will deal with the design of a PV plant coupled with a storage system, starting from the analysis of the energy load, through the technical design and arriving to the economical indicators allowing to make the final evaluations. different kind of buildings will be taken as example and active attendees will have to propose a solution for a school building and to finally decide what solution implementing and how, as a local authority decision maker…
Challenge #02: Achieve the best energy investment
The challenge will be to establish which energy efficiency interventions could be executed to achieve the highest energy savings in a group of buildings, considering particular constraints related to budget, minimum energy savings and financial aspects such as budget limitations. For that purpose, e-lessons are focused on analyzing the energy consumption of the buildings and then evaluate these interventions through the implementation of a decision support tool.
Challenge #03: Maximise the energy efficiency of your building
A sustainable community is built on a sustainable school. The challenge is to reduce the energy consumption of a school building and - at the same time - to increase its comfort through a sound economic plan. Five e-lessons will guide you in the use of a free and user-friendly tool to transform a school in a nearly-Zero Energy Building, from the energy profile to the economic analysis in a few clicks.
#06B - Green living cities

The main objective is to provide skills on planning and evaluating integrated cycling policies, that is, policy packages covering all relevant dimensions of cycling mobility for a low carbon mobility scheme in our cities. For that purpose, e-lessons are focused on how to identify the different dimensions of cycling mobility, prioritise them and create an integrated cycling policy plan, including how to evaluate integrated cycling policy measures.
Challenge: Cycling your city
Participants will be invited to analyze their own city, neighborhood or area and identify the different cycling dimensions on the basis of sociodemographic, transport modes, cycling trips, Kms of bike lanes, etc. They will then draft an action plan for cycling, including concrete policy measures to tackle each dimension based on the results of the analysis and an equity check of the measures proposed.

This course brings an opportunity to learn more about the sustainable agri-food sector under the European framework, and provide ideas to make participants think about concrete and effective solutions after discovering successful study cases. In particular, the challenge of this module tackles how to make more sustainable diets in schools based on current discussions on the promotion of animal-based or plant-based diets. So get ready to get to know and test the tools proposed by the experts and reflect on further ideas and opportunities to transition towards a more sustainable society.
Challenge: Reduce the impact of what you eat
Participants will be introduced to specific innovative tools that have been used to analyse different business models with the aim to reduce pollution in the agri-food sector with different strategies. Presented specific case studies comprise 2 examples of plant-based products and 2 examples of animal-based products. Therefore, we challenge you to assess the value chain of targeted agri-food products and identify inspiring and innovative solutions to promote a more circular and sustainable economy. Start by watching the videos and supportive information that we have prepared for you and test yourself with the Quiz! We look forward to getting to know each other and interactively brainstorming with the support of the experts and the Value Chain Canvas of Circulab.
